OVC Offers 2007 Action Partnership Funding
Applications are no longer being accepted.
OVC is now accepting applications from national nonprofit organizations for funding under the "OVC FY 07 Action Partnerships" solicitation. Five cooperative agreements of up to $75,000 each will be awarded to help advance victims' rights and services and promote a collaborative victim assistance response.
Programs proposed must advance victims' rights and services by forming partnerships through training, public awareness, and educational efforts, and by promoting a collaborative response to victims of stalking, domestic and dating violence, and child abuse.
All applications are due by 8 p.m. (eastern time) on January 24, 2007. Those applying are urged to begin the application process well in advance of the deadline.

Funding Available To Raise Awareness in Underserved Communities
Applications are no longer being accepted.
Applications are now being accepted for funding to help organizations increase public awareness of victims' rights in underserved communities and to teach these communities how to access crime victim services. OVC is offering $350,000 for up to seven awards-ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 each. Favorable consideration will be given to applicants partnering with one or more ethnic community-based or faith-based organizations with close ties to the underserved community.
Applications are due January 22, 2007, by 11:59 p.m. eastern time. Those applying are urged to begin the application process well in advance of the deadline.

Get a Free Copy of the NCVRW Resource Guide and Poster
To coincide with your planning for the upcoming National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW), April 22-28, 2007, OVC will release its annual NCVRW Resource Guide, Victims' Rights: Every Victim. Every Time.
For a limited time, when you sign up online to become part of the NCVRW mailing list, you will receive a free copy of the NCVRW Resource Guide and poster to assist with your planning and awareness activities. OVC plans to mail the guide and poster in early 2007. Free copies are available for a limited time only, so sign up today.

Funding Available for Public Awareness Initiatives
The National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA), through a grant from OVC, is offering funding to help communities institute public awareness initiatives during National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) April 22-28, 2007, which follows the theme "Victims' Rights: Every Victim. Every Time." NAVAA will reimburse approximately 60 communities up to $5,000 each to aid them in conducting NCVRW initiatives to enhance the public's awareness of crime victims' rights and services.
Applications will be evaluated and competitively selected based on their strengths in the following areas: collaboration, support, experience in victims' issues, use of the media, innovation and impact, diversity, and clarity.

Locate Your State Victim Assistance Academy
OVC now offers an easy-to-use State Victim Assistance Academy (SVAA) locator for quick access to OVC-funded SVAAs nationwide. The locator is available both as a clickable map and an alphabetical listing, and the most recent additions are the District of Columbia, Virginia, Iowa, and Arkansas.
An SVAA is a weeklong course on victimology, victims' rights, and victim services and is designed to meet the entry-level training needs of a broad range of victim service providers and allied professionals. SVAAs are modeled after the National Victim Assistance Academy, but tailor content to reflect the needs and laws of individual states.

Resources Available for Domestic Violence Awareness Month
This October, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, OVC has partnered with the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), to present a compilation of selected domestic violence-related publications, products, and events.
Resources include training opportunities, project evaluations, reports on victimization, statistics, and more. You are encouraged to download and use these items in your planning and awareness campaign. View the complete compilation on the Web.

NCVRW Awards: Call for Nominations
Each year to kick off National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW), OVC hosts an awards ceremony honoring individuals and programs for their outstanding efforts on behalf of crime victims. The following awards are given annually in recognition of outstanding service:
- National Crime Victim Service Award
- Award for Professional Innovation in Victim Services
- Special Courage Award
- Allied Professional Award
- Ronald Wilson Reagan Public Policy Award
- Volunteer for Victims Award
- Crime Victims Fund Award
- Federal Service Award
If you know someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty to help improve the lives of crime victims, OVC invites you to download and fill out a nomination form to recognize that individual with one of these prestigious awards. OVC Announces Theme for 2007 NCVRW
Every April, OVC leads communities in their observances of National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW), promoting victims' rights and services in all sectors of society. OVC is pleased to announce the theme for next year's NCVRW: Victims' Rights: Every Victim. Every Time.
Public rallies, candlelight observances, and other commemorative activities to highlight victims' rights and services are being planned now for April 22-28, 2007, when the next NCVRW will be held. As a practitioner who serves victims of crime, it is important that you get in on the ground floor. Be a Presenter at the National Indian Nations Conference
The Tribal Law and Policy Institute is coordinating the Tenth National Indian Nations Conference: Justice for Victims of Crime, an OVC-funded event to be held December 7-9, 2006, in Palm Springs, California. The conference will provide opportunities for education on various issues pertaining to victimization in tribal communities.
You are invited to apply to be a presenter at the preconference institutes to be held on December 6 and the conference workshops. Proposed presentations should demonstrate strategies for improving safety and promoting justice and healing for crime victims in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
Applications to present at preconference institutes or conference workshops will be evaluated on the following criteria. Proposed presentations must-
- Be relevant to the target audience.
- Fit into the conference's general theme and goals.
- Demonstrate expertise in working with Native American communities.
- Encourage interdisciplinary coordination and cooperation.
- Highlight promising practices.
- Introduce innovative strategies.
- Honor and support victims of crime.
To be considered as a presenter for a preconference institute or conference workshop, you must submit an application by June 30, 2006.

New Publications Address Key Crime Victim Issues
Several new publications and products on key crime victim issues have been released to coincide with National Crime Victims' Rights Week to help educate victim service providers and allied professionals and to assist them in their efforts to respond to victims of crime.

OVC To Fund More Than 60 NCVRW Community Awareness Projects
Since 2004, OVC has supported communities in raising awareness of crime victims' rights and services through the National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) Community Awareness Project initiative. This year, OVC will support 62 Community Awareness Projects. Applications were selected based on their strengths in the areas of collaboration, support, experience in victims' issues, use of the media, innovation and impact, diversity, and clarity.

Enroll for Upcoming OVC Training Sessions
This May, OVC is offering two comprehensive and practical skill-building sessions for victim service providers. Mark your calendar and register now for the following workshops.
Capacity-Building Fundamentals for Tribal Victim Service Programs. Workshop participants will be guided through an assessment of the fundamentals needed to ensure program sustainability in Indian Country, including funds management, service array planning and utilization management, and strategies for marketing and networking.

Early Registrants to NCVRW Ceremony Receive Free Screensaver CD OVC will distribute free National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) screensaver CDs to the first 100 registrants for the upcoming NCVRW Awards Ceremony. Registration will be open until April 16, 2006, and the ceremony will take place April 21 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
As part of the federal commemoration of NCVRW, individuals and organizations are recognized for their outstanding service in supporting victims and victim services. Biographies and accomplishments of former award recipients can be found on the OVC Web site. The following awards are given annually:

Promote Awareness With the NCVRW Resource Guide
To coincide with your planning for the upcoming National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 23-29, 2006, OVC has released its annual NCVRW Resource Guide, "Victims’ Rights: Strength in Unity." This Guide was developed to help communities and victim assistance providers promote awareness of crime victim issues and help commemorate NCVRW.
The kit includes-

- Sample press materials.
- Introductory theme DVD "Victims’ Rights: Strength in Unity."

2005 NCVRW Theme DVD Wins CINE Golden Eagle Award
The 2005 National Crime Victims’ Right Week (NCVRW) theme DVD, Justice Isn’t Served Until Crime Victims Are, was recently awarded the CINE Golden Eagle Award for "motivational film or video."
Justice Isn’t Served is a "call to action" piece that highlights 25 years of the victims’ rights movement, specifically focusing on the tremendous advances that have been made in the field and goals for the future.
The CINE Golden Eagle Film and Video Competitions recognize high-quality professional production in a variety of content categories. This is the second prestigious award that this OVC public awareness DVD has received.
