Register Now for Upcoming Training Sessions
OVC offers comprehensive and practical skill-building sessions to victim service providers throughout the country. To enhance the services you provide, mark the following workshops on your calendar and be sure to attend.
Curriculum Design Training for Victim Service Providers. Applying adult learning principles, attendees will develop a training module and learn to apply effective training techniques.

Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor Training. Attendees will evaluate case studies and participate in interactive activities to gain the skills they need to assist sexual assault victims effectively and sensitively.

Providing Culturally Competent Services to Victims of Crime. Through case studies and activities, attendees will explore the challenges and benefits of cross-cultural communication.

2005 NCVRW Theme DVD Wins INTERCOM Award
The 2005 National Crime Victims' Right Week (NCVRW) theme DVD, Justice Isn’t Served Until Crime Victims Are, was recently awarded a Certificate of Merit at the 2005 International Communications Film and Video Competition (INTERCOM) Awards Ceremony.
Justice Isn't Served is a "call to action" piece that highlights 25 years of the victims rights movement, specifically focusing on the tremendous advances that have been made in the field and goals for the future.
The INTERCOM Awards are presented at the annual Chicago International Film Festival, which recognizes the technical excellence and creativity behind sponsored productions and highlights the importance of the media arts in communications.

View NCVRW Video Clips Online
Educational videos about victimization are available from the National Victim Assistance Academy video series. The videos address services that are available to victims and the correlation between substance abuse and victimization. A discussion guide accompanies each video.
The videos currently featured relate to National Crime Victims’ Rights Weeks (NCVRWs) 2005 and 2004. The next NCVRW will take place April 23–29, 2006.
2005 NCVRW Theme: Paving the Path to Justice. In 2005, NCVRW marked its 25th anniversary. The video features a montage of photos, headlines, and personal statements that highlight notable achievements in the victims rights field. It also includes a special tribute to the legacy of former President Ronald Reagan.
2004 NCVRW PSA—Victims’ Rights: America’s Values. This PSA was featured in the 2004 NCVRW Resource Guide to help communities promote awareness of victims issues throughout the year. The guide includes victimization statistics, sample PSAs and speeches, special event ideas, and the NCVRW theme highlights.

Apply for NCVRW Activity Funding Today
OVC is offering funding to help communities conduct public awareness initiatives
during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 23–29, 2006.
OVC will reimburse approximately 60 communities up to $5,000 to aid in awareness
efforts.
Applications will be evaluated and competitively selected based on their
strengths in the following areas: collaboration, support, experience in victims’
issues, use of the media, innovation and impact, diversity, and clarity.
Among those encouraged to apply are public agencies, nonprofit organizations,
community-based victim service organizations, faith-based organizations, tribal
organizations, and community coalitions committed to advocating for the rights
and services of crime victims.
The deadline to apply for aid is November 18, 2005.

OVC Prepares for the 2006 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Commemoration
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), Victims’ Rights:
Strength in Unity, will be observed April 23–29, 2006. Every April,
OVC leads communities in their observances of National Crime Victims’ Rights
Week (NCVRW), promoting victims’ rights and services in all sectors of society.
Public rallies, candlelight vigils, and commemorative activities are planned
to highlight victims’ rights and services.
Once again, OVC will recognize those who demonstrate outstanding service
in supporting victims and victim services with awards in eight categories.
As part of the Federal commemoration of NCVRW, award recipients will be honored
on April 21, 2006.

OVC Launches Expanded OVC Web Forum
The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has launched a newly expanded and redesigned
OVC HELP for Victim Service Providers Web Forum. Fast becoming the "go-to" place
for providers and allied professionals to share information and insight on
best practices, the site now features tools that further enhance collaboration.
New features include—
OVC News and Announcements
Learn the latest news in crime victim
services. This section will report current OVC-focused initiatives and relevant
topics and events with a primary focus on best practices.
Search Engine
Find the information you need—fast. With this new
user-friendly searching tool, you can quickly and easily scan and retrieve
posts by topic of interest, keywords, or date.
Hot Topics
Discover the issues that concern the Web Forum community
most. Hot Topics will include posts from unique users or forum topics that
are relevant to current events in victim assistance.
Post of the Month
Get a new perspective. The Web Forum now highlights
a single user post that expresses information that may be of value to the online
community and contributes to the body of knowledge concerning crime victims
and best practices. The post will be a submission that captures the essence
of a forum topic or a popular issue.
OVC believes that these improvements make for a more user-friendly experience.
We invite you to explore the redesigned site, suggest new topics, and give
