New Identity Theft Victim Assistance Online Training

According to the 2008 Identity Fraud Survey Report, which was released by Javelin Strategy & Research in February 2008, "over the past 12 months, 8.1 million Americans were victimized by identity fraud, a crime amounting to $45 billion." OVC has developed a new e-learning tool, Identity Theft Victim Assistance Online Training: Supporting Victims' Financial and Emotional Recovery, to provide victim advocates and other allied professionals with the tools they need to better understand and more effectively serve the numerous victims of identity theft and assist with their financial and emotional recovery.

Access this online training now to obtain information about the different types of identity theft, the laws that support victims' rights, and the various forms and paperwork that may need to be completed, as well as identity theft case studies and a list of resources and referral agencies.

National Training and Technical Assistance Needs Assessment Survey Now Online

OVC is conducting a new online National Training and Technical Assistance Needs Assessment Survey of victim service professionals.

Your input is vital! OVC asks that you take this unique opportunity to voice your training and technical assistance needs and express the extent of those needs. Your input will inform OVC’s program planning and assist the OVC Training and Technical Assistance Center in developing and designing new training opportunities for the victim services community.

Attend the OVC Mass Casualty and Violence Conference

The 2009 OVC Conference on Mass Casualty and Violence at Home and Abroad—OVC Assisting Victims of Crime will be held October 19–21, 2009, in Arlington, Virginia. It will bring together first responders; victim service professionals; policymakers; federal, state, local, and tribal agencies; and experts in mass violence to share their experiences and collaborate on best practices regarding responses to victims of mass casualty and violence.

There is no registration fee; however, you must register by September 28, 2009, if you want to attend this event.

Report to the Nation Wins Communicators Award

OVC’s Report to the Nation 2007: Rebuilding Lives, Restoring Hope has received an Award of Distinction in the Print Media category of the 15th Annual Communicators Awards competition, recognizing it as a publication that exceeds industry standards in quality and achievement.

The report outlines OVC’s activities and accomplishments during Fiscal Years 2005 and 2006. Each section summarizes victims’ needs in that area and relates how funding from OVC makes a crucial difference in the lives of crime victims. Topics include the Crime Victims Fund; victim funding in Indian Country; funding and assistance for victims of international trafficking, terrorism, and mass violence; identity theft; and domestic violence.

Founded by communication professionals within the International Academy of the Visual Arts, the Communicator Awards is one of the largest awards of its kind in the world. The competition honors creative excellence in print media by seeking out the best in advertising, public relations, corporate communications, graphic design, and identity work.
